Attributes of Recycled Content (ARCs) are Transformative Tool, Providing Revenue Tied to Investments in Recycling

The Recycled Material Standard is the only certification that utilizes the ISO Book & Claim accounting method to enable the transfer of recycled material claims completely separated from processed material. This is achieved through the trading and retirement of Attributes of Recycled Content certificates. By enabling the environmental benefits of recycling to be traded outside the material supply chain, recyclers are provided additional means of generating revenue and cost competitiveness with virgin resins.

ARCs are able to be generated only by recycling processors or reclaimers, and they are specifically tied to new investments in recycling, as determined by additionality requirements in the RMS certification audit. To help recyclers understand the possible investment pathways and see if their recent expansions meet compliance, we have developed an ARC Generation Guidance document. It illustrates case studies of different recycling expansions and material processing scenarios to resolve questions and confusion around additionality.

Have you made recent investments to open a new facility, expand an existing building, or add new production capacity? You could be qualified to generate and sell ARC certificates and find direct ROI to support your business growth.

Download the Guide today and don’t hesitate to reach out to the RMS team to discuss certifying your organization to flexibly sell certified material or ARCs.
